En savoir plus sur le livre

Elia Kazan was over 50 years old when his first book was published in 1962, but he was certainly not an unknown debut novelist. Kazan, the theater and film director, was a world-renowned figure with productions of works by Arthur Miller and Tennessee Williams, as well as films such as "On the Waterfront" and "East of Eden." Elia Kazan was born in 1909 in Istanbul to Greek-Armenian parents. His family emigrated to America when he was four years old, and memories from this cultural shift became the theme for his first novel "America – America," about a Greek boy whose only thought is to get to the USA. Kazan continued his writing alongside his theater and film work. In 1967, "The Arrangement" was published, followed by "The Assassins" in 1972. Both novels caused a tremendous stir and were among the bestsellers of the year. In "The Understudy," published in the spring of 1975, Kazan has for the first time used the environment he knows from the inside as the setting for the story. Once again, Kazan has written a large, broad, entertaining narrative.
