Excerpt from Nathan Der Weise: Ein Dramatisches Gedicht in Funf Aufzugen A German Grammar, and a Reader, with' a Vocabulary on a somewhat new plan, was prepared, a few years ago, by the editor of the present series, in the hope of contribut ing something toward the advancement of German studies in this country. In reply to numerous and repeated soli citations, a compendious dictionary, on the plan of the Vocabulary to the Reader, has also recently been prepared. It has seemed desirable to add a series of texts, for class use, with brief but careful annotation and explanation. For this purpose, texts have been selected which are already approved by long and frequent use. A The notes and intro ductions to the several works are by different scholars, in various parts of the country; but all under the guidance and revision of the general editor.
