En savoir plus sur le livre

Two women at different stages of life embark on a journey of renewal after facing hardships in this uplifting novel. Joan Sample, now a widow and empty-nester, has become somewhat of a recluse. After spending yet another birthday alone, she decides to heed her sister's advice and reengage with the world. With her sister's support, Joan takes courageous steps: hiring someone to tend to her overgrown garden, joining a grief support group, and renting a room to a local college student. Gradually, she begins to rediscover herself. Meanwhile, Maggie Herbert juggles her job as a barista with nursing classes while living with her alcoholic father, navigating his volatile moods and financial struggles. Her life takes a turn for the better when she rents a room in Joan's home. The warmth of her new living situation offers Maggie a glimmer of hope, but her budding attraction to a favorite customer threatens the harmony she has just begun to establish with Joan. Additionally, Joan finds herself intrigued by the mysterious landscaper revitalizing her garden, a man who seems to carry his own past losses. As both women face unfamiliar life choices, they lean on each other in unexpected ways, discovering that "family" can take many forms and often means love in its various manifestations.
