This book contains the abstracts of talks and posters presented on the 2nd International Congress of Respiratory Science (ICRS 2009) in Bad Honnef, Germany. The multidisciplinary concept of the ICRS comprises a broad spectrum of contributions from various fields such as zoology, botany, microbiology and medicine. The presentations focus on: breathing during locomotion, conscious control of breathing, the molecular basis for the development of respiratory organs and their evolution, oxygen transport proteins, gas exchange on surfaces and the use of modern methods such as synchrotron X-ray imaging in Respiratory Science.
