En savoir plus sur le livre

The Morgan Library and Museum boasts one of the world's finest drawing collections. This publication accompanies an exhibition by the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung München, showcasing 100 master drawings from the 15th to the 20th century. Featuring a diverse range of works from elaborate sketches to spontaneous studies, the collection highlights techniques such as silver-point, chalk, pen, and watercolour, exemplified by European masters. The history of the Morgan collection is intertwined with notable purchases by banker John Pierpoint Morgan, starting in 1909, and remarkable gifts and acquisitions after the Library's public opening in 1924. The collection includes masterpieces from 15th and 16th century artists such as Tintoretto, Fra Bartolomeo, Parmigianino, del Sarto, and Reni, alongside Spanish masters like El Greco and Herrera. It also features Dutch artists from Heemskerck to Rubens and Van Rijn, as well as German talents like Dürer and Cranach the Elder. The 17th and 18th centuries are represented by Poussin, Watteau, Tiepolo, Canaletto, and Piranesi, while the 19th and 20th centuries include Goya, Ingres, Corot, Degas, Mondrian, Klee, Picasso, and Pollock.
