Adaptable code generation of consistent and customizable data-centric applications with MontiDEx

En savoir plus sur le livre

Information systems are software solutions designed to manage structured information through client applications, or data-centric applications, featuring graphical user interfaces (GUIs) for executing CRUD operations and displaying data. The development and prototyping of these systems involve several common tasks, including implementing data structures, creating GUIs, and ensuring access to persistence infrastructures. Model-driven development (MDD) seeks to minimize development effort and costs by utilizing platform-independent models as primary artifacts. Each model represents an instance of a domain-specific language (DSL) that outlines aspects of the software system. MDD tools convert these models into executable source code. Effective MDD for data-centric prototypes necessitates generating executable prototypes from DSLs that accommodate underspecification for managed data, while also addressing customization needs for agile software development. Challenges include managing the overhead of maintaining DSLs and MDD tools to enhance developer acceptance, as well as providing adaptation mechanisms for MDD tools to facilitate both framework-like and standalone usage. The objective is to enhance development efficiency by reducing manual implementation tasks through a language family, code generators, lightweight methods, and mechanisms for customizing generated source code and adapting the code generator.
