Die Ausstellung nimmt Bezug auf das griechische Wort metabole – ursprünglich verändern und wörtlich “umstürzen”. Sie untersucht, wie das Denkmodell “Metabolismus” in der Kunst verstanden wir und tritt dabei in einen Dialog mit wissenschaftlicher Forschung jenseits eurozentrischer Perspektiven. In times of worldwide human-made transformations, climate change and ecological awareness, expanding and exploding the notion of metabolism seems to be crucial to understand present and future politics. The exhibition takes its cue from the Greek word metabole that originally meant to change and, literallly, to throw over. It investigates the understanding of “metabolism” in contemporary art in a dialogue with philosophical and scientific research beyond Eurocentric rationalization.
