En savoir plus sur le livre
The Politica emerged as a distinct genre of academic reflection on civil life in the late sixteenth century, thriving until at least the mid-seventeenth century, particularly in universities of the Holy Roman Empire and the Dutch Republic. This genre saw contributions from theologians, philosophers, jurists, and medical doctors. Despite a few accessible surveys and individual well-researched authors, comprehensive research into this genre remains largely unexplored. This volume compiles contributions from both senior and emerging researchers, showcasing various approaches and arguments. By highlighting the heterogeneity of current research, it serves as an introduction to the genre and aids in a more complete assessment of Early Modern political thought. The collection emphasizes the significance of this genre in the transformations of political thought during the Early Modern Age. The Politica developed from commentary on Aristotle, the reception of Bodin, and other intellectual sources, maintaining its relevance in academic circles. The gathered essays provide a diverse range of questions, theses, and organizational models, offering readers initial guidance and contributing to a more thorough understanding of the political ideas of the early modern period.
