Place-activator

En savoir plus sur le livre

‘Place Activator’ is the second in a series of four studios led by Guest Professor Boštjan Vuga at TU Berlin’s Architecture Design Innovation Program (ADIP). This magazine introduces the situation in Trieste and outlines strategies to address stagnation. It emphasizes the catalytic power of individual architectural objects that can transform the broader urban landscape. Trieste, an aging city with minimal urban change over decades, is culturally rich, situated at the crossroads of Latin, Germanic, and Slavic influences, and features unique micro-ambiences. However, its development is hindered by the seaport, which dominates the coastline and isolates the city from the sea. The studio proposes seven architectural objects at key locations within the old and new seaport, designed to open up the area and reconnect the city with the waterfront. By incorporating 'porosity' as an architectural principle, these designs aim to create volumetrically and organizationally porous structures that offer inviting spatial sequences, ultimately fostering Trieste's urban development.
