The first international week at the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt focused on Poverty and Poverty Reduction Strategies, engaging around 75 students and 10 lecturers from various global institutions. Participants included five students each from Jamia Millia Islamia in India, the University of Johannesburg in South Africa, University Ivan Franko in Ukraine, Lvivska Polytechnika in Ukraine, and Temple University in the USA, alongside 20 students from Erfurt. The seminar aimed to explore poverty as both a global issue and a regionally specific challenge, fostering discussions on the complexities involved. Workshops and visits to local institutions allowed for comparative analysis of poverty-related strategies. Lecturers shared insights from their respective countries through seminars, enriching the dialogue with diverse perspectives. This work compiles these contributions, highlighting regional and national differences in addressing poverty and strategies for reduction. It illustrates how various regions confront poverty and offers guidelines that could inform Social Work practices aimed at poverty alleviation in other contexts.
