"Arkady Petrov (b.1940) is one of the most well-known artists from the "men of the seventies" generation, in whose creative work are reflected both unique individuality and the typical features of the art of this time. Over a few decades Petrov has been continuously evolving in painting, remaining, however, true to his selected themes. The main motif of Petrov's art is the life and culture of the Soviet province in the mid-XX century, more broadly,-the life of "the simple Soviet man" as the particular case of the "little man", one of the defining traditions in Russian culture. The artist brings new meaning to the stereotypes of Soviet Society, looking at them through the prism of kitsch subjects, images of national mass culture-from aniline coloured postcards to the portraits of Alla Pugacheva.
