En savoir plus sur le livre
Make-or-buy decisions, particularly regarding logistics services, are not a new issue; many companies have outsourced logistics for decades, and numerous publications have addressed this topic. However, the increasing trend of outsourcing highlights the growing importance of optimizing logistics performance. As companies have largely exhausted rationalization potentials in production, they are now focusing on logistics. Previous publications on make-or-buy decisions in logistics have not adequately addressed the significance of this topic, lacking in both breadth and depth. Many challenges that arise from a deeper exploration of the subject have been overlooked. Since decisions about whether to produce in-house or outsource logistics services are primarily made based on cost considerations, this work focuses on the cost aspects of these decisions. It reveals new insights, particularly concerning the cost and revenue differences between in-house production and outsourcing of logistics services. Additionally, it discusses the implications for assessing economic viability and the methodology for determining the necessary data for make-or-buy decisions in logistics.
