Contributions to the development of gasdynamics

En savoir plus sur le livre

Since airplane speeds began nearing the speed of sound, compressible flow problems have garnered significant attention in industrialized nations. Today, gas dynamics stands as a mature scientific field with numerous facets and applications that are too vast for any single individual to master or encapsulate in a few volumes. This work honors the 70th birthday of Dr. Klaus Oswatitsch, a pioneering figure in gas dynamics and Professor of Fluid Mechanics at the Technical University of Vienna. We aimed to create an English translation of selected scientific papers by Oswatitsch for several reasons. Primarily, we believe that a compilation of his major works will serve as a valuable reference in gas dynamics. His research is frequently cited, yet English-speaking readers often find it time-consuming to access the original texts, leading to incomplete references and understandings. For instance, Oswatitsch's equivalence rule is rarely mentioned in contemporary textbooks, despite predating Whitcomb's results. Additionally, his papers contain valuable insights that remain underappreciated in Anglo-American literature. This translation seeks to bridge that gap and enhance the accessibility of Oswatitsch's contributions to the field.
