This is a book in which poetry expressing the tenderest affection is happily conjunct with likenesses, most dextrously limned, of the fairest and foremost cats at Her Majesty's court. All are clothed in the latest Florentine fashion, calles 'Renaissance', the lady cats in dainty ruffs and bodices of gleaming silk, wondrously embroidered, all adorned with lace of the finest filigree and costly jewels; the gentlemen exquisite in velvet. Yet here is no vulgar display; for these are highborn felines, gracious and courtly, the very flower of English cathood, whose bearing alone betokens their nobility; each clear gaze carrying the 'speechless message' that Her Majesty's court is the finest in christendom, surpassing even that of Spain.
