The Book of the Thousand Nights and a Night, commonly known as the Arabian Nights, is a collection of Middle Eastern and South Asian stories and folk tales compiled in Arabic during the Islamic Golden Age. Burton's translation, considered a classic of English literature, includes some of the most iconic tales from the collection, such as Aladdin's Wonderful Lamp and Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. Burton's translation also preserves the more complex and erotic elements of the original stories that were often left out of earlier translations.
