En savoir plus sur le livre
The teaching of Portuguese in Canada, characterized by a blend of Portuguese and Brazilian varieties, primarily attracts heritage language learners. However, there is a growing number of students from non-Lusophone backgrounds, motivated by diverse reasons. The classroom experience is enriched by the multi-dimensional diversity of both teachers and learners, who come from various ethno- and sociolinguistic backgrounds. Together, they cultivate a unique, interconnected relationship with the Portuguese language. Yet, in the minority language context of Canada, the plurilingual and intercultural competencies of teachers and learners often go unrecognized and unexplored, despite the classroom's rich multilingual and multicultural environment. This volume aims to unite scholars and educators to share knowledge and encourage critical reflection on the teaching and learning of Portuguese in Canada, providing a comprehensive overview of its current landscape.
