Born in Surrey, Florence Louisa Barclay was an English romance novelist known for her engaging storytelling. The daughter of an Anglican rector, she grew up in a family with strong religious ties, including her sister Maud Ballington Booth, a prominent Salvation Army leader. After marrying Rev. Charles W. Barclay, the couple honeymooned in the Holy Land, where they famously discovered Jacob's Well, a significant biblical site.
