This book is published to coincide with Cork's status as European City of Culture 2005 which promotes cultural co-operation across all of Europe. Some of the past Cities of Culture include Reykjavik, Santiago, and Rotterdam. Aimed at tourists, visitors and residents, it includes listings for all budgets and tastes covering accommodation, restaurants, pubs and clubs, and a wide variety of activities from tourist trails, golf links, shopping, day trips, and children's activities. It also includes interesting historic tidbits, places of historic and cultural interest plus where to get a pint and a shave at the same time. Lastly, there is a listing of festivals such as the world-famous jazz and film festivals plus special European City of Culture events.
