'As I Am' is a book about friendship. Sky is a cute tabby cat, and Kia is a child who is nonbinary. Together, they share unconditional love. They play silly games and give comfort through fears and loneliness. Kai does not identify as a boy or a girl. Being nonbinary had been challenging, as all of Kai's friends are cisgender.
