The book is an in-depth, impartial, study of one of the more controversial issues in contemporary American society - What relationship did the Founding Fathers expect to exist between Religion and the State? The Founding Fathers first had to be identified; this was done by searching out those responsible for the two major documents that define the United States of America today - The Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
