Never very good at academic work, ninth-grader Trevor has learned to navigate the classroom and homework with a series of evasion strategies and the help of friends. On the brink of tenth grade and the rest of his life, in which education is supposed to play a major part, the future looks less than rosy and school for the most part has become a demoralizing endurance test until he is seized suddenly by a strange supernatural intelligence. Trevor and his friends set out to harness his unruly mental power and discover its source, as Trevor is drawn into an investigation of school break-ins and Brie's family secret, and is forced to confront an enraged and suspicious Blaine. Then Trevor must decide to what end he will use the power. Fast-paced and humorous, this adventure/fantasy explores the self-defining choices of adolescence. It will appeal to younger, middle, and young adult readers.
