After losing his father at a young age and facing a lengthy legal battle over inheritance, he emerged as a playwright and pamphleteer in the early 17th century. His works often sparked debates, notably during the War of the Theatres with contemporaries like Ben Jonson. Middleton's collaborations yielded significant plays, including "The Roaring Girl" and "The Changeling." His final work, "A Game at Chess," faced censorship, leading to a mysterious end to his prolific career before his death in 1627.
