In 1971, an international panel convened to discuss underutilized tropical legumes, leading to the creation of concise write-ups on 1,000 economic plants, including 146 legume species. Dr. C. F. Reed conducted literature searches and prepared drafts, which were presented at the International Legume Conference in 1978. The project aimed to address public inquiries about legumes and has since evolved with a computerized system to keep the information updated, enhancing the utility of the write-ups beyond mere bibliographic references.
