En savoir plus sur le livre

Born in 1707, Henry Fielding's early life in Somerset and Dorset shaped his later literary career, which began with his first play at age 21. Known for his sharp political satire, he faced challenges after the 1737 Theatrical Licensing Act curtailed his work. Transitioning to law, he married Charlotte Craddock, who inspired characters in his novels. His notable works include the parody Shamela and the acclaimed picaresque novel Tom Jones. Fielding's commitment to justice led to founding the Bow Street Runners, but declining health ultimately took his life in 1754.
