The life of Margaret Oliphant Wilson is marked by both literary achievement and profound personal tragedy. After publishing her first novel in 1849, she faced immense challenges, including the deaths of three of her six children and the loss of her husband to tuberculosis. Despite these hardships, she supported her family through her writing, which gained her a significant readership. Her later years were overshadowed by further losses, including the deaths of her remaining sons, leading to a decline in her health and interest in life before her passing in 1897.
