The thesis investigates the significant environmental challenges facing northern Nigeria, particularly soil degradation, erosion, and desertification, which threaten agricultural sustainability. It highlights the primary human-induced factors such as deforestation, land mismanagement, and overgrazing, alongside inadequate governmental intervention. Despite the urgency of these issues, there is a lack of comprehensive studies on the physical and chemical processes involved. The findings emphasize the critical need for attention to these problems, which will impact agriculture and the environment well into the 21st century.
