The book explores the evolution and current state of administrative procedure law across nine European countries. The authors aim to highlight the differences and similarities in administrative procedures, tracing their origins back to the Habsburg Monarchy and the judicial practices of the Vienna Administrative Court. This historical context laid the groundwork for the Austrian codification of general administrative procedure established by the 1925 Act – Allgemeines Verwaltungsverfahrensgesetz. The procedural institutions created during this period were adopted by most successor states of the Habsburg Empire. Post-World War II changes and developments at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries significantly altered the Austrian codification model, which some theorists regarded as a standard. Nonetheless, the authors argue that the core principles of the Austrian codification remain intact. The originality and value of the work stem from its examination of administrative procedures in Habsburg succession countries, considering the influence of the emblematic 1925 Austrian codification. The comparative legal analyses employ various methodologies, including analytical, historical, functional, structural, and contextual approaches.
