LNER publicity and posters, 1923 to 1947. It's Quicker By Rail is probably the most memorable catchphrase coined by the LNER advertsing department but there was much more to their sophisticated advertsing strategy than catchphrases. Some of the best advertsing of these years was used to promote trains and services. Many of the companies had stressed the speed and comfort of their trains, particularly those that operated the lines between London and Scotland. This rivalry was pursued by the LMS and LNER during the 1920s. Both the Royal Scot of the LMS and Flying Scotsman of the LNER ran non-stop to Scotland but they did not compete on speed; it was not until the following decade that the pace began to quicken.
