Michael Saunders is a retired consultant neurologist and an Anglican priest, who is convinced that all religions require secular study in a globalized world. Having been warned that this might undermine his faith, he went ahead and studied anyway. Having suffered from muscular dystrophy for much of his life, the combination of being a priest, a doctor and a disabled person gives him an insight into religion, medicine and illness that most of us lack, but he endeavours in this series of essays to share with us his own views on these matters, and others, whilst acknowledging the diversity of opinion. Does God work without science? Will disease cure itself if we pray hard enough? Or must we help ourselves?
