Nurse on Northern Seas is the first instalment of a memoir and travel journal written by Penelope Skilbeck of her time as a Nursing Officer on cruise ships.Three years short of retirement, Penelope decided it was time to leave her job as a nurse tutor, to sail the world and have some fun. As a child of the colonies, she had always loved travel and ships, and had sailed to Singapore on the Empire Windrush, shortly before it sank.Nurse on Northern Seas describes her voyages around the British Isles, up the Norwegian coast to Svalbard in the far north, through the Baltic to St Petersburg and across the North Atlantic to Iceland, Greenland and eastern Canada. There are descriptions of the places visited, a light-hearted (but not necessarily accurate) scamper through their history and folklore, together with insights, anecdotes, and extraordinary adventures from life on board.
