In Conversation, 2020-2021: Dialogues with Artists, Curators, and Scholars collects a group of vital and diverse deep-dive conversations. Each conversation was originally broadcast live on Zoom during the height of the pandemic years, immediately transcribed and edited by its participants, and then published as an illustrated booklet mailed for free to subscribers. Many of the dialogs took place between participants who already knew each other well, creating an ease of conversation and honest, generous dialog. This collection of texts emerges now as a time capsule of sorts, charting the practices of artists and their interlocutors as they grappled with profound social rupture. The participants include (in order of their original programs) Tony Cokes and Christoph Cox; Cauleen Smith and Amber Esseiva; Ja'Tovia Gary and Frank B. Wilderson III moderated by Aria Dean; David Reinfurt and Larissa Harris; Kemi Adeyemi with Jessica Bell Brown, Lauren Haynes, and Jamillah James; Renée Green and Gloria Sutton; Candice Lin, C. Riley Snorton, and Hentyle Yapp; Wanda Liebermann and David Serlin; and Diedrick Brackens and Katherine Bradford. Edited with an introduction by Dan Byers. Design by Chad Kloepfer.
