Librarian Lucy's new historic house is laden with family secrets that threaten her happiness in the 9th Lighthouse Library mystery. Spring has arrived in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and Lucy and Connor have finally moved into their historic cottage on Nags Head Beach. Although the house requires extensive renovations, Lucy is excited about her work at the Bodie Island Lighthouse Library, planning her wedding, and decorating their new home. However, their peaceful life is shattered when a dead body is discovered. On her first night alone with Charles, the library cat, Lucy hears unsettling noises. Investigating, she finds dusty footprints in the living room and an open door, recalling the house's haunted reputation—forty years ago, the teenage daughter of the owners vanished without a trace. The mystery deepens when Lucy and Connor stumble upon the body of an unfamiliar man in their kitchen, who turns out to have a long-standing connection to their home. To uncover the truth behind the past and its implications for her future, Lucy must delve into the history of the house. Meanwhile, the Classic Novel Reading Club is exploring The House of the Seven Gables by Nathaniel Hawthorne, a tale of secrets in an old house. Can Lucy draw parallels between Hawthorne’s narrative and her own life before the killer strikes again?
