En savoir plus sur le livre

Claudia Comte (b. 1983, Switzerland) is renowned for her site-specific installations that blend wooden sculptures with graphic, abstract wall paintings. Each new body of work is governed by a unique, rule-based measurement system, ensuring that every piece corresponds to a specific scale. In her first retrospective survey exhibition at Kunstmuseum Luzern, Comte utilized 10 rooms, created 40 wall paintings, and filled 1,059 square meters of space. This was achieved by merging the painted museum walls with a new series of circular, semicircular, quadrant, and triangular paintings, alongside her sculptures. Despite their structured nature, Comte’s works exude playfulness, humor, and irreverence, challenging the seriousness often associated with minimalism. Her creations blur the lines between painting, sculpture, and installation, drawing references from popular culture, nature, heraldic symbols, and various art historical movements like Op art and Pop art. Comte's sculptures can be seen as a playful take on classical forms while exploring display, the role of the plinth, and ground/figure dynamics. This monograph includes contributions from Fanni Fetzer, Chus Martínez, Matthieu Poirier, and an extensive conversation with American curator Neville Wakefield, presenting a comprehensive overview of Comte’s work.
