Companies seek competitive advantages by creating customized products that meet customer requirements and quality goals. To address these challenges, internal production processes must become more effective, producing better quality in shorter times and at lower costs while operating near technological limits. This complexity necessitates intricate planning and coordination. The concept of Selective and Adaptive Production Systems (SAPS) offers a way to achieve high precision assemblies from lower precision manufactured parts, reducing production costs while maintaining high quality. Simulation has shown to be a valuable tool in planning and control, leading to the development of an innovative simulation model that represents the structure and function of SAPS. This model assists users in estimating SAPS efficiency early in production planning, taking into account dynamic aspects like subsystem behavior and identifying key technical parameters to enhance production system performance. Additionally, it incorporates lean principles and quality strategies, reflecting realistic circumstances in the simulation. A practical case study demonstrates the application of this concept and simulation model, illustrating how challenges related to high precision requirements for final products can be effectively addressed using the SAPS simulation model.
