The Automated Technology for Verification and Analysis (ATVA) international symposium series began in 2003 to address the rising interest in formal verification, particularly in hardware design and manufacturing in East Asia. Its goal is to foster research in automated verification and analysis by facilitating interaction between regional and international research and industrial communities. ATVA 2006, the fourth symposium, took place in Beijing, China, from October 23-26, 2006. Key topics included theories that provide automated support for ensuring the correctness of software and hardware systems, alongside their implementation in tools and applications. This year saw a record 137 submissions from 27 countries, each evaluated rigorously by three Program Committee members, with additional input from subreviewers. The final selection process, conducted via Springer’s Online Conference Service, lasted about 10 days, resulting in 35 accepted papers. The event featured three keynote speeches by Thomas Ball, Jin Yang, and Mihalis Yannakakis, and was preceded by a tutorial day comprising three two-hour lectures by the keynote speakers.
