En savoir plus sur le livre
Corruption undermines markets and challenges government legitimacy, yet its hidden nature complicates empirical study. This work aims to address these challenges through the lenses of economics and political science. Presented at the Zentrum for Interdisziplinäre Forschung in Bielefeld, Germany, in 2001, the papers initiate a cross-disciplinary dialogue. A distinguished group of scholars employs various qualitative and quantitative techniques, demonstrating that with patience and creativity, empirical research on corruption is feasible and can inform policy discussions. One set of papers examines high-level political corruption, particularly in European Union Member States, while another focuses on bureaucratic corruption in developing and transition countries. These studies analyze specific instances and types of corruption, proposing potential solutions. The content is relevant for those seeking to combat corruption globally, including business and nonprofit sectors, as well as international aid and lending organizations. The editors are recognized authorities in the field: Donatella Della Porta, a Professor of Political Science at the University of Florence, and Susan Rose-Ackerman, a Professor of Law and Political Science at Yale University.
