What does German unification imply for international politics? Many commentators speculate on how a united Germany will wield its newfound power and influence. Due to its size, central location, and strong economy, Germany is poised to significantly impact developments in Europe and beyond. This comprehensive study examines key aspects of Germany's security policy since 1990, including its promotion of political and economic reform in the former Soviet bloc, efforts to strengthen European security institutions, transformation of its armed forces, and responses to international crises and conflicts, particularly regarding military participation.
