En savoir plus sur le livre
The late eighteenth century saw the British seeking local labor in West Africa, leading to innovative free wage labor contracts with the Kru, who were experienced in European trade. The establishment of Freetown in 1792 allowed the Kru to form a permanent labor community, known as Krutown, which provided a steady workforce for British maritime activities. This migration fostered the creation of additional Krutowns across various Atlantic ports, enhancing the Kru's role in international trade and labor dynamics.
