En savoir plus sur le livre

During the Rwandan genocide in 1994, nearly one million Tutsi were murdered by the Hutu tribe, with eighty percent of the surviving women experiencing rape. Today, victims and perpetrators coexist, yet rape survivors and their children remain at the bottom of the social hierarchy. Despite this, many young women have bravely worked to rescue their traumatized mothers from stigma, demonstrating remarkable courage and optimism in a society still grappling with authoritarianism and trauma. The work showcases resilient women who have triumphed over their harrowing experiences. Olaf Heine has captured this pivotal moment of reconciliation through powerful photography, portraying mothers and daughters together at the very sites of the atrocities. Accompanying the images are brief statements from the women, sharing their journeys of healing. This photo-book project collaborates with ora Kinderhilfe, an organization providing psychological and financial support to victims in Rwanda, with a portion of the proceeds dedicated to their cause. Heine, a prominent portrait photographer, has worked with numerous musicians, actors, athletes, and writers, capturing their humanity and vulnerability through staged photo shoots that allow them to embody various roles.
