En savoir plus sur le livre
This volume serves as a tribute to Georg Klute, focusing on key thematic fields central to his research: politics beyond the state, legal pluralism, anthropology of violence and war, anthropology of work, and participant observation. It aims to stimulate debate and further the evolution of Klute's scholarly contributions. The editors include Thomas Hüsken, an ethnologist specializing in politics in North Africa and the Middle East; Alexander Solyga, an ethnologist and economist currently serving as Country Director for GIZ in Sudan; and Dida Badi, who has extensively studied the socio-political structures of Tuareg populations in the Sahara and Sahel through cultural and historical anthropology. The book's contents cover a range of topics, such as the complexities of African politics, legal pluralism in Ethiopia, the anthropology of work in Mali and Algeria, and the merits of participant observation. Contributions include discussions on middle-class households in Benin, violent extremism in Guinea-Bissau, local reconciliation in Libya, and the commodification of culture in Senegal. The volume also addresses the nuances of fieldwork in pastoral societies and explores the relationship between humans and their environment in African contexts. Through these diverse perspectives, the book honors Klute's legacy while encouraging ongoing scholarly discourse.
