Theodor Mommsen (1817–1903) was a prominent figure in 19th-century Germany, influencing science, politics, and public life. It also includes contemporary descriptions of how he was perceived and evaluations of specific artworks by Mommsen, his family, and others. The images and texts analyzed here provide a vital and previously underexplored resource for understanding Mommsen’s biography.
