The book presents a theory-based epistemology of modality (TEM), which asserts that justifiable belief in modal claims hinges on a supporting theory, belief based on that theory, and the absence of defeaters. It is divided into two parts: the first motivates and defends TEM against objections, while the second evaluates its merits against other modal epistemologies. The author argues that TEM provides a more effective approach to modal skepticism than Peter van Inwagen's views and can complement existing epistemological frameworks rather than compete with them.
