En savoir plus sur le livre
The title of this series of drawings references an inn along Andreas Seltzer’s route to school in Frankfurt am Main, a gathering spot for boozers, tricks from the nearby brothel lane Breite Gasse, and river boatmen dreaming of transatlantic journeys. This series employs a cartographic approach similar to Seltzer's earlier works on Jules Verne’s "Journey to the Center of the Earth," where he explored concentric circles leading into the earth’s interior. In contrast, this collection features particles of bodies and fragmented objects transformed into hybrid beings or rendered in near-unrecognizable detail. The formations exhibit a playful quality, set against a densely patterned backdrop that jumbles various graphic elements and adds depth. Dominated by red, black, grey, and white, these works do not adhere to a predetermined plan but respond to impulses of densification, separation, and dissolution. The resulting narratives possess carnivalesque and circus-like traits, presenting riddles and puzzle-like images that balance or display clumsiness. This interplay invites suspense, encouraging viewers to engage as players in the unfolding stories.
