In cooperation with the World Veterinary Poultry Association, the Institute of Poultry Diseases at Free University, Berlin, hosted the 11th “Hafez” International Symposium on Turkey Diseases from May 26-28, 2016, in Berlin, Germany. The event aimed to facilitate the exchange of current information on turkey diseases, focusing on specific issues and encouraging innovative solutions. This symposium was dedicated to Prof. Dr. Aly Fadly and Prof. Dr. H. L. Shivaprasad for their significant contributions to the field. The program featured 35 oral presentations across seven main sessions. The first session included six papers on genetic and animal welfare issues, while the second session presented seven papers addressing diagnostic and control challenges, including antimicrobial resistance. The third session focused on viral intestinal disorders, particularly haemorrhagic enteritis, with five papers. The fourth and fifth sessions covered various viral, bacterial, and parasitic diseases, including Turkey Meningoencephalitis virus and Newcastle disease, with six papers each. The sixth session included five papers on Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale, and the seventh session featured six papers dedicated to Avian Influenza. A total of 155 scientists and experts from 19 countries participated in the symposium.
