This volume analyzes modern poems by prominent poets who have significantly contributed to the evolution of Arabic poetry, blending innovative techniques with traditional folk elements. The works draw heavily from The Arabian Nights, a key source for contemporary poetic texts. Part One explores the growing interest in folk materials alongside the development of modern Arabic poetry, reflecting political, social, and cultural shifts. It examines four distinct periods: before 1945, 1945–1961, 1962–1987, and 1988 to the present, detailing the changing perspectives of Arab intellectuals and modern criticism towards folk culture influenced by various factors. This section also discusses the artistic and dramatic significance of The Arabian Nights. Part Two applies these insights by analyzing the incorporation of The Arabian Nights in modern poetry across the aforementioned periods. It focuses on the artistic techniques and the role of folk materials in shaping the poems' texts and structures. The analysis categorizes the poems by their composition periods and the complexity of their allusions, following Genette’s theory. Additionally, the volume introduces specific terms developed for this study to describe different forms and techniques of folk allusion.
