This publication hopes to complement the exhibition in the Skylight Room at Kunsthalle Krems, which focuses on works conceived and realized specially for the presentation – by providing a broader and more in-depth perspective. The show in Krems aims to consolidate Sandner’s current approach and provide an exciting contribution to the discourse and analysis of Sandner’s work as well as of painting as a medium. The publication places the artist in an art historical context, one that encompasses Conceptual Art and Minimalism, while further clarifying the importance of his work in relation to current trends in painting. Indeed, it notably also integrates viewpoints specific to the reception of this medium. The works exhibited in Krems are complemented in this catalog by an extensive overview of the work the artist has produced in recent years and in earlier phases of his artistic career.
