En savoir plus sur le livre
The project aimed to transform a large mono-functional housing estate into a sustainable, diverse, and socially integrated urban district with innovative infrastructure systems. It involved collaboration among urban designers, landscape architects, architects, and specialists in urban water management and energy. Urban designers focused on enhancing diversity, integrating workplaces, and redefining public spaces, while architects addressed reconstruction measures, new uses, and the integration of varied housing types within existing structures. Landscape architecture aimed to create functional open spaces with distinct characters, while energy specialists developed responsible resource use concepts. The energy technology chapter discusses decentralized solar hot water systems, heat recovery from wastewater, and CO2-free heating solutions for large estates. Urban water management emphasizes conservation, recycling of water, nutrients, and energy, and the preservation of local resources, featuring an area-integrated black water system for recycling. The project exemplifies the synthesis of research from all disciplines involved, serving as a model for transforming a mono-functional dormitory district into a sustainable mixed-use community.
