Each year, over six million people visit the Munich Oktoberfest, spending more than a billion euros. The festival boasts fascinating facts: an experienced bartender can fill a litre mug of beer in about 1.5 seconds, though it may not be full to the brim. Skilled bartenders can serve up to 280 mugs from a single 200-litre barrel, known as a “Hirschen.” Official regulations state that an Oktoberfest mug must hold at least 0.9 litres of beer. The bands play the famous “Ein Prosit der Gemütlichkeit” up to 80 times daily; although written by a Saxon, it resonates with Bavarian hosts, as each toast signals the pouring of three to four hectolitres of beer, totaling 280 hectolitres or 28,000 litres per tent each day.
