Simone Demandt showcases her mastery in this unique photographic series, presented for the first time in this volume. The "studio" setup was often hasty and makeshift, with no lighting rigged, forcing improvisation. The objects Demandt aimed to photograph varied unpredictably in size and weight. Gaining access to the evidence room required considerable persuasion, where she captured silent witnesses, primarily murder weapons. A key condition was that none of the objects could be linked to a specific crime narrative. The results of her adventurous exploration are remarkable; some objects hint at potential crime backgrounds, while others seem trivial, leaving little to the imagination. This division of reality—where photography captures a specific moment in time—creates a fascinating interplay between history and function, both slipping away in the confines of her cardboard studio. The series was exhibited at the Museum am Markt / Badisches Landesmuseum in Karlsruhe from February to October 2014 and at Kunstmuseum Heidenheim from July to October 2015.
