Water demand management

En savoir plus sur le livre

The project “Young Cities – Developing Energy Efficient Urban Fabric in the Tehran-Karaj region,” led by TU Berlin, is part of the BMBF-funded program “Research for Sustainable Development of the Megacities of Tomorrow.” It aims to develop exemplary solutions for the Tehran-Karaj region in Iran. The inter 3 - Institute for Resource Management focuses on “Water & Wastewater Management,” creating integrated, sustainable approaches for water supply and sanitation. This document summarizes findings from the work package on “Water Demand Management: Consumption Patterns and Efficiency of Water Saving Measures.” The research aimed to reduce domestic water consumption without compromising quality of life, thereby lowering energy consumption linked to water use. Given the unknown water consumption behavior in Iranian households, the project team conducted measurements in selected test households. They developed a non-intrusive measurement method to respect privacy concerns. The Flow Trace Analysis (FTA) method involved a data logger attached to the residential water meter, continuously recording flow traces that could be analyzed for distinct end uses. This concept was implemented and tested in three sample households, providing initial insights into consumption patterns in Tehran households.
